你不在 (Ni Bu Zai) by Jason Chen

Today, I share with you a cover version of 你不在 (You’re Not Here) originally sung by Wang Leehom. This cover is performed by YouTube’s one and only Jason Chen.

Reasons why I like this:

  • It’s another sweet sounding song and one that Jason sings very very well. A good tune for winding down to.
  • Even if you don’t understand what he’s singing, you can still tell what kind of song it is purely by listening to the voice, the music, the song as a whole – it’s what I like to call “musical emotion”.
  • He made mistakes but chose to leave them in the video – I love it when people do that. Not only is it amusing but it shows that they’re real people and that everyone makes mistakes sometimes.
  • It gives me another song to add to my “search for the original” list. If I hear a cover version of a song, I will almost always look up the original.
  • It adds another song to my ever-growing Chinese song list. Because it’s good to stay in touch with your cultural roots, isn’t it? 🙂

Lily is the blogger's name of an overimaginative, positivity-powered, and potentially awkward introvert girl who likes to think she's "quirky" (though it's very possible that she's just plain weird!) She loves music, musical theatre, art & comics, inspirational stories, languages, expressive people and anything that is a little eccentric.
