Life isn’t about knowing what you want. It’s about crossing off the list what you don’t want. – Rachel Berry, Glee
Or at least the quote is something similar… as soon as the words hit my ears, I just had to write it down! (Which involved a lot of fumbling around to find something to write it on.)
This is another reminder that everything happens for a reason. Anything we’ve done has helped us get to where we are now and what we know now.
You can argue that if the past was different then perhaps ‘where we are now’ would be different, perhaps even better. But don’t we only feel that way because of what happened in the past?
Maybe I spent a whole day volunteering to taste-test different types of coffee. I spend hours and hours, morning til evening, tasting all these coffees… only to discover that I don’t like any coffee at all. What… What a waste of time! If only I hadn’t spent that whole day tasting coffee and spent it eating chocolates instead.
But wait, how was I supposed to know? If that day never happened, I would have never known how much I disliked coffee. Now that I’ve learned this very useful piece of information, I can make sure I don’t ever order coffee next time I’m out with friends.
Okay, silly example. But you get the point 🙂
Besides. We’re here now. Unless we invent a time machine (and even that would have dangerous temporal consequences… yeah, too much Doctor Who for me ), the best we can do is learn along the way. That way, we know that we made good use of that experience. And that way, it definitely wasn’t a waste time 🙂
(By the way, I do actually like coffee. )
