“Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. Like so many things, it is not what is outside, but what is inside that counts.” – the Merchant, Disney’s Aladdin
In other words, don’t judge a book by its cover 😉
I think by nature, people find it easier to cast judgement on others purely from what they see on the outside. It’s the only thing they have to go by.
And it’s easy to forget that the outside isn’t the whole story. Appearances and even first impressions don’t tell us everything about a person.
If Aladdin taught us anything at all, it’s that we shouldn’t judge someone from what they look like or what we think we know about them. Until we actually get to know that person and their individual story, we really don’t know anything about them at all.
Like the movie says (and it’s one of my favourite metaphors!), that person could be a diamond in the rough… we just might not know it yet 🙂
